Aromatherapy for relaxation brings about a sense of relaxation by using natural aromas from essential oils. Try these 10 minute aromatherapy exercises for stress relief and relaxation.
This is one of my favorite ways to manage stress. Aromatherapy brings about a sense of physical and emotional well-being by using the natural aromas of selected essential oils which are extracted from different plants.
Rose, lavender, rosemary, ginger, eucalyptus, lemon, and pine are just some examples of the wonderful essential oils that you can choose from for your aromatherapy for relaxation.
Have a look at our aromatherapy essential oil reference guide to choose your oils.
Aromatherapy For Relaxation
– 10 minute exercises
1. Smell Assessment
Here is a fun thing to do when you buy a new essential oil…
Simply put 2 drops on a tissue, sit somewhere quiet and inhale the aroma.
Close your eyes and let yourself experience it…
- How does it make you feel?
- What does it remind you of?
- How would you describe this smell?
- Does it change over time?Learning how the aroma affects you will help you use it in a way that suits you, and you may find that after ten minutes you feel quite different in yourself.
2. Aromatherapy Bath
- An aromatherapy bath needs some preparation – but it need not take you long.
- Run your bath to a comfortable temperature, perhaps light a candle on the side and put on some relaxing music.
- Choose your combination of essential oils and then either to 20ml/4 teaspoons unfragranced bath foam or 20ml/4 tea spoons full cream milk. Both methods soothe the skin and help disperse the essential oils into the water – making for a real aromatherapy for relaxation!
- Pour in your mixture, swirl it around evenly, and then – get in.
- As an extra treat, you can use any of the aromatherapy bath blends to make a little massage oil as well; so, for example, after a Sweet Dreams bath, add the same essential oil formulae to 15ml/3 teaspoons jojoba carrier oil, and massage your skin with the fragrance you enjoyed in the water. This is a particularly lovely way of helping yourself to relax and de-stress at the end of a long day.
